Refiner's Fire: Are YOU willing to get in it?

"My heart's one desire is to be holy, set apart for you LORD" is a verse in this song called "Refiner's Fire".  With so many desires floating within our heart, why choose this one?  Especially when it requires immersion in the fire. May I add that this process is NOT a one-time dip in the fire! It definitely does not sound appealing, does it?

Well for one, it is not our own desire but God's command. It transforms into a desire when we develop an intimate relationship with Him. It is birthed in the secret chambers of our heart because our love for Him yearns to do His will.  Therefore we "choose" to be holy, set apart, ready to do His will!

...but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." ~ 1 Peter 1:15-16 ESV

Now the question: Why fire? Does it have to take all that to be ready to do His will? I mean we do have the "desire" right? Yet, the scripture above also says to be holy in all of our "conduct"!



Fire purifies - removing all impurities that only arises to the surface while in the extreme heat. (search out the process for refining silver/gold on Google)

We have mindsets, character flaws, learnt habits, and the lust of our flesh that must be burnt up! We cannot expect to be effective in doing His will when we still struggle with pride, selfishness, jealousy, envy, malice, past hurts, insecurities, fear, offenses, etc, etc, etc.....

In essence the world cannot remain in us! We are to be set apart and be made holy. Can we make ourselves holy by following traditions, discipline and principles.  Absolutely not! We can do nothing apart from God! Yet, you are able to make that decision to allow God to refine you so that when you are tried, you will come out as gold - reflecting His image so others can see Him as you go forth doing His will!!!

Therefore, I pray that you too will sing with me "My heart's one desire is to be holy, set apart for You LORD, I CHOOSE to be Holy, set apart for You My Master - Ready to do Your will..."

"And after you have suffered a little while [in the fire], the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen and ESTABLISH you [ready to do His perfect will and be effective]" ~ 1 Peter 5:10 (emphasis in brackets and caps have been added)
